COVID-19 Protocol:

To ensure the health and safety of all students and staff, MCG will be adhering to strict health and safety protocols as advised by the CDC. All students and staff will be required to be masked, physically distanced, observe regular hand washing and sanitation, and follow arrival/dismissal procedures. All participants in MCG's programming will be required to sign and adhere to our Student Health Agreement.

We are excited to welcome our students back on-site at MCG. All classes will be held in-person.

ENROLLMENT

Apprenticeship Training Program(ATP) enrollment will be held exclusively via our website.

  • Enrollment is from September 28th to 30th.

  • Spaces fill quickly, so sign-up early!

  • Courses are offered at no cost to PPS students.

  • Admission is first-come, first-served basis.

  • Waitlists will be maintained.

TRANSPORTATION

There will be a yellow school bus at most PPS high schools going to MCG Youth & Arts.

For all other students, transit tickets will be provided or MCG staff will arrange for pick-up.

Public transit tickets will be provided to get home.

You can master this simple but powerful software with just a little time and effort. And just like every other art form, 3-D modeling can be used to express yourself, whether that means creating an architectural model that evokes your lifestyle, or a custom creation that you bring to life with our 3-D printers.

Get ready! We are going to be making narrative busts that could either be biographical or autobiographical. Learn how to sculpt the features of the head and face and at the same time explore how your voice can carry through an idea that becomes more than the sum of its parts.

Pottery 101

This class will focus on the technical drawing skills needed to make realistic depictions. We will practice contour, crocus (quick sketches), and gesture drawing and will draw still lifespan's using different shading techniques. This class will include field trips and walks around MCG to practice plain-air drawing.

Embrace the art form of black and white photography! In this course you will learn how to operate different 35mm cameras. You'll learn more about the science of photography, too. Lastly, print your creations 2x3, 5x7, 8x10, or 11x14 in our awesome darkroom.

Quick, get a cup on this year! Let's grab some clay and get messy as we dive into the pottery wheel. We are going to cover how to make pottery from wedging to firing. Learn how to get centered and master the basics to make pottery!

Art can have many functions including scientific illustrations, commercial design, political propaganda, personal self-expression, and more. This class will focus solely on art as a vehicle of self-expression. Students will practice doing still lifespan's and figure drawing while attempting to create a unique look or style. We will perform a few abstraction exercises and finish off the class with an abstract painting that brings together all the work done in the class.

Learn how to take your drawings from the sketchpad to the digital realm using Adobe Photoshop. If you're not the drawing type, you can still create awesome anime-themed projects like posters, buttons, keychains, and more. Interested in laser engraving? 3-D printing? Wacom digital illustration tablets? We've got those, too.

In this class you'll use lasers to cut and engrave wood and other materials to create amazing projects. Create cool boxes for your prized possessions, make a Halloween-themed lamp, etch designs into glassware, and more. You'll be using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, so you'll learn to use professional graphic design software as well.

No, don't even think about taking automatic pictures! This is your chance to experience the world of automotive photography. We'll have unique field trip opportunities photographing classic, antique, and exotic cars!

Transform and Roll Out!

Transform and Roll Out!... Some slabs. We are going to form sheets of clay into classic pottery shapes like plates, bowls, vases, and more! Learn how to make the most out of the slab roller to create vessels that are both simple and elegant. Never used a slab role, you say? No problem! This will be a great  jumping off point for how to make objects out of clay.

Beginners Sewing
Teaching Artist: Raquel Kueffner

We will cover basic sewing techniques including threading a sewing machine, sewing straight and zig zag lines, creating darts and ruffles, and attaching zippers and buttons. We will learn how to read a sewing pattern and make your very own garment or accessory. This class is intended for beginner sewers; however, more advanced students are welcome to enroll and work at their own pace.
